Keep your hedgerows looking healthy and well maintained

Hedges aren’t just a decorative addition to a garden, they also add shade and privacy as a natural alternative to wooden fencing. To keep your hedge in top condition regular hedge trimming is essential, not just for reducing size and height, but also to encourage dense foliage and healthy growth.

Paul Day Tree Specialists can undertake regular and one-off hedge trimming and hedge cutting work. We employ gardeners with NPTC qualifications for forestry and arboriculture.

Further methods to manage hedgerows

When a hedgerow ages or becomes weaker, hedge laying and coppicing are two methods which can help increasing growth and improve the structure and strength of your hedge. Laying weaves the stems of the hedge into a fixed position – known as pleaching. Coppicing cuts the hedge at ground level to encourage regeneration. Both methods are ideal for a hedge that acts as a livestock barrier or will need to resist force.
